Summary

Lastest information about the Tesco planning application for a supermarket at the Brett Works site in Hadleigh.

Planning application database

The application forms, plans and other documents submitted with the proposals can be viewed via the planning application database - Tesco planning application (B/08/00311).

The "Statutory Expiry Date for Decision" that appears on the Tesco planning application page defaults to 13 weeks, from the day the application was received, which is the time allowed by statute for a decision to be made on the application. This date is subject to change and is not an undertaking given by the council that a decision will be made on that date.

Updates/News (most recent first):

July 2010

The Tesco applications were due to be presented to the Development Committee on 14th July 2010 but Babergh has had to postpone its consideration for a superstore in Hadleigh to a date sometime later this year - with September being the earliest.

This has been made necessary due to the need to consider legal advice regarding the assessment of environmental issues before an application can be considered by councillors. We apologise for any inconvenience such a delay may cause, but we will ensure that all interested parties are informed as early as possible once a new committee date has been set.

January 2010

Further informations and revised plans received which provide for:

  • A reduction in the size of the food store to 2,500 sq metres
  • A reduction in the size of the car park
  • Additional landscaping and tree planting
  • A reduction in the amount of artificial lighting
  • The construction of a new building to replace Bridge House
  • The updating of ecological reports

These revisions are currently being considered prior to the application being presented to the Development Committee later this year.

February 2009

The determination of the planning application has been delayed as discussions continue with the applicants.  This webpage will be updated if any further information is received.

November 2008

Revised drawings and additional information have been received in connection with the application submitted by Tesco Stores Limited.  In summary the revised drawings provide for:

  • Minor alterations to the site access where it adjoins 17 Bridge Street
  • The use of timber cladding instead of blue render to the northern elevation of the building
  • Amendments to the allotment layout and the landscaping proposals

In addition the Landscape and Visual Assessment originally submitted with the application has been updated and a Townscape Appraisal has been produced. The applicants have also submitted further ecological survey information and a proposed mitigation strategy.

If you would like to make any additional comments you are welcome to do so in writing within the next 28 days.  Any comments we receive will be made available for anyone to read and they cannot be treated as confidential.  They may also be copied if the application is the subject of an appeal to the Planning Inspectorate.

If you decide to write to us we will not be able to acknowledge your comments or provide you with a detailed reply.  We will, however, take your comments and any previously made into account when the application is determined and let you know whether it has been approved or refused.  At this stage it is not possible to indicate when the application will be presented to the Development Committee.

October 2008

The applications for the development of the site are still under consideration pending the receipt of additional information from the applicant to address comments made by English Heritage and the Local Highway Authority.
