A Suffolk-wide event to help parish councils find new ways of providing much-needed affordable housing for local people is to be held next month.
The seven Suffolk district and borough councils - Babergh, Ipswich, Forest Heath, Mid Suffolk, Suffolk Coastal, St Edmundsbury and Waveney - together with the Suffolk Rural Housing Enabler will explore how they can work in partnership with parish councils to meet their local housing need.
The morning seminar, being held on 9th October, will look at the barriers local rural affordable housing schemes currently face, and hear from two Babergh parish councils, Lavenham and Cockfield, which have successfully delivered schemes.
The two successful affordable housing schemes will be showcased at the event as excellent examples of partnership working.
Representatives from both Lavenham and Cockfield parish councils will be on hand to explain to other parish councils that might not have had experience of working with a district or borough council to deliver affordable housing within their area.
Both representatives will explain the process from their point of view and how they have worked hand-in-hand with Babergh to deliver these schemes. Ian Tippett, Babergh District Council's Strategic Housing Manager, said: "This is a great opportunity for parish councils to share the experience of others how they can bring forward much-needed affordable housing for their communities that blends into the character of their village and enables it to remain a vibrant and sustainable place to live."
The event is being held at Blackbourne Hall, Elmswell. If you would like more information about the seminar and would like to book a place, please call Karen Carter on 01473 826673 or email at Karen.carter@babergh.gov.uk. ENDS
