Babergh teens get a chance to try out Motor Cross!
Young people living in Sudbury and Great Cornard will have the chance to spend the entire day on a motor cross track next week thanks to Babergh District Councils Be Active service and funding from the Disadvantaged children subsidiary fund.
12 young people aged 11-15 will get the opportunity to learn smooth clutch control and correct cornering at Motor Cross Tryout school in Belstead, Ipswich
Transport has also been arranged for the youngsters courtesy of Great Cornard Upper School and with support from the local police Safer Neighbourhood Teams the day looks set to make a lasting community impression.
Stephanie Lloyd Babergh’s Be Active Officer says, " This is an incredible opportunity for young people to try out a sport that they have watched on TV but never thought they would get a chance to actually take part in. As all aspects of the sport of Motor Cross come at a cost from the bike to race entry fees it is not an easily accessible sport for a lot of youngsters, so being able to offer them the chance to ride for the day is a wonderful opportunity for them, and I am sure that the youngsters will be very grateful.”
This day is the 3rd activity day Be Active have arranged during the holiday period for young people who have been referred to the Be Active Service and may be at risk of offending or on the fringes of anti social behaviour.
Sally Watson Babergh District Councils Anti Social Behaviour Network Officer says, "The Be Active days give these young people something positve to be involved in, a chance to experience what its like to be good at something and build their confidence and self esteem in a controlled, safe environment".
Babergh District Council Community Development Team are looking to build a partnership with a local Motor Cross club to offer young people an easier route into the sport – if you can help or know anyone who may be able to please contact Stephanie Lloyd on 01473 825834
