Solar Energy and Water Heating - Grants

Summary

The Government has introduced an attractive Feed In Tariff which currently provides a 5 - 8% return on your investment in installing photo voltaic panels.
The Suffolk Energy Action Link (SEAL) is encouraging the installation of Solar Water Heating Panels to reduce the energy and costs of producing domestic hot water.

Clean Energy Cashback

Householders, community groups and businesses get paid for generating renewable electricity using solar panels and wind turbines. So not only do you reduce your energy bill, become more self sufficient in energy, reduce your carbon footprint, contribute to Suffolk becoming the Greenest County, and you get paid for doing this!

Over the last 5 years the price of electricity has doubled. Whilst no one can predict future costs with certainty, experts believe increases are almost inevitable in the medium to long term. Taking up an opportunity like this will be an important aspect to the growing network of green buildings across Suffolk.

Clean Energy Cash-Back covers the initial capital cost of installation and according to the Government can earn you a return up to 7% p.a. In practice that means you should earn back the capital cost at least two to three times over 20 years (25 years in the case of solar systems).

You must ensure that both the equipment and the installer are certified under the Micro-generation Certification Scheme (MCS); otherwise you will not qualify under the scheme

Robbie Gawthorp from East Green Energy, an MCS accredited company based in Suffolk and a Creating the Greenest County Award winner recommends ”It is so important that you use an accredited company, we have many phone calls from customers who haven’t and then they haven’t been able to benefit from the Cash-back scheme.” East Green Energy is also registered on the Trusted Trader scheme run by Suffolk Trading Standards.
