A story told in songs and dance, ‘Songs from a Hotel Bedroom’ deliivered a perfect, overpowering story that captured the whole audience's emotions. It tells the tale of Angélique, a singer who reflects from a hotel bedroom about her afair with the songwriter Dan. The story is told through letters, sent to Angélique whilst Dan is away, flashbacks, and through the beautiful dancing of the two ghost like characters that explain the story in another way.
The music was incredible the whole way through, all written by Kurt Weill. It explained everything that was going on in lyrics which was a different and new way to look at things. It tied in with the storyline as well, with Angélique being a singer and Dan being a songwriter – It was perfect to have their love explained through music. This also worked well because both Frances Ruffelle (Angélique) and Nigel Richards (Dan), are both famous singers, and their passion for singing really comes out on stage.
Both actors worked well together and the chemistry both physically, and how they acted with each other, made the romance seem so real.
I thought it was one of the best plays I have seen so far, it took everyone in the audience on an emotional rollercoaster, and almost every person could relate to a short but passionate romance, leaving the audience reminiscing in memories.
Perfect for music lovers, and great for an enjoyable, romantic night out.
