Ennio Marchetto, often named ‘The Living Cartoon’ provided an evening of comedic entertainment at its best, with just a number of instantly recognisable songs and a whole lot of coloured paper. The show includes over 50 of the world’s most famous and adored icons, ranging from the likes of Eminem to Michael Jackson, from Lady Gaga to ABBA.
I was astounded by Ennio’s endless supply of energy, I for one was just getting tired from the constant clapping. Dancing around under the heat of theatre lights for almost an hour can only be endured if you’re having the time of your life, and I’m almost certain Ennio was. The excitement that radiated from Ennio’s performance meant that there was never a dull moment for us or for him.
I was very impressed by Ennio’s lip-syncing skills, occasionally I found myself believing that it was in fact him who was singing, especially during his Susan Boyle impersonation.
The stage was bare, although by the end, it was strewn with a rainbow of different pieces of coloured paper. There was an effective use of blackouts, along with the excellent use of a disco ball.
This is definitely something that you had to see to believe, I found myself talking about it for hours after, but it was so wacky and wonderful that no one really understood what I was trying to describe. With a leotard that was perhaps slightly too revealing and a hilarious imitation of Celine Dion, Ennio provided humour without it’s usual need for wit. I think even the most keen environmentalists would agree that the show was definitely not a waste of paper.
