The circus has arrived in Ipswich and you do not want to miss it! Ockham’s Razor aerial theatre company brings us three breathtaking pieces of drama that combine mime and acrobatics using custom made aerial equipment. The first of the pieces, Arc, shows how we can feel emotionally isolated when we are not necessarily physically isolated. The second piece, Memento Mori is a duet that depicts the idea of death being a partner which dances us to our graves. And finally, Every Action… which is more of a comedy where the idea is that our actions always have an effect on someone else.
My personal favourite of the three was Every Action… it was a good, light-hearted piece which was what was needed after the other two pieces; Arc being a bit longer than it perhaps needed to be and Memento Mori being… well, a dance with death, which isn’t exactly laugh out loud stuff.
Technically, the performers were excellent and what’s more they made it look like kids playing on a climbing frame while still being able to show off their talents as actors with heavy emphasis on body language and facial expressions. The music was obviously very well thought out too, it went a long way in helping to set the mood for each of the pieces and the performers timing with it was perfect.
Overall, a great abstract show that is thrilling, professionally done and is definitely worth seeing if you get the opportunity to do so.
