TAG...Me v The City

Summary

A hip-hop and graffiti show moves from street to theatre, giving a spectacular performance.

The New Wolsey Theatre Ipswich - 24-25 February

A hip-hop and graffiti show moves from street to theatre, giving a spectacular performance. It was instantly eye-catching, grasping our attention with the brilliant choreography by Jonzi D, a graduate of the London School of Contemporary Dance with much experience. It was impossible to sit still in our seats!

However, we felt that without knowing the plot before seeing the show it could have been just a dance, with no clear storyline.

The cast were energetic, with an extremely high level of fitness, and performed an extraordinary array on dance moves, on the ground as well as in the air, which were absolutely fantastic. They did a variety of group and individual dances, which really showed off their talent. They created words with only their unbelievably flexible bodies, and portrayed the moods and feelings of the graffiti artist, such as drunkenness and sorrow.

Personally, we felt that the understudy for Katie Pearson, who recently suffered an injury making it unable for her to perform, was the weakest member of the cast. Her moves were less extravagant and a lot less complicated. Often she was out of sync, which sometimes seemed to almost result in collision. But, considering it was her first show, she integrated quite well.

Despite there being a few setbacks we enjoyed it immensely and would recommend it to anyone. The dancers really did credit to themselves by performing a non-stop routine of breathtaking and sensational moves.
