Babergh Domestic Violence and Abuse Forum will be running a course very soon (Spring 2009). Please watch this space for more details or get in contact for further information. If this programme is not convenient for you to attend we can give you details of other courses being run within Suffolk. All courses are free and confidential.
The programme takes place over 12 weeks and it is beneficial if you attend all 12 sessions. It is a rolling programme meaning that you can join at any point - the benefits are the same as long as you complete 12 weeks.
What are the aims of the programme?
- To help women understand the beliefs held by abusive men and, in so doing, recognize which of these beliefs they have shared.
- To illustrate the effects of domestic violence on children.
- To assist women to recognize potential future abusers.
- To help women gain self-esteem and the confidence to improve the quality of their lives.
- To introduce women to community resources such as Women’s Aid, the Police Domestic Violence Unit etc…...
Each group has two facilitators who are fully trained and have a deep understanding of the issues surrounding domestic abuse. They will not tell you what to do, but empower you to make your own decisions about your relationship.
Other sources of help. Those who have experienced domestic abuse may have little or no understanding of what has happened to them. It can feel like a painful, confusing mess which they are largely to blame for. If you or somebody you know are experiencing domestic abuse you may find the following useful:
